Through our partner, Almaz Journeys, an Andrew Harper Travel advisor will plan a custom trip that includes a full daily schedule of cultural exchanges, while still tailored to your interests about Cuba, giving you flexibility on the island. During your stay, you will meet Cuban artisans, athletes, painters, dancers, historians, guides, craftsmen, and other professionals to promote a greater understanding between the Cuban and American people. Please note that this is not a tour, and under the general licenses you are required to participate in all activities on your schedule while traveling in Cuba. Though not required, the fun will occur instinctively.

Day 1 Havana

After being guided through customs into the VIP lounge, you'll meet your representative and English-speaking guide for a private transfer to the hotel. After settling in, take an overview drive around Havana, where the architecture is as colorful and classic as its vintage cars. The drive will also include an essential stop at El Morro, the 16th century fortress at the mouth of the harbor, for panoramic views of the city and the turquoise waters of the Caribbean. In the evening dine at a favorite privately-owned restaurant, where you’ll experience a blend of Spanish, African, and Caribbean flavors.

Next, stand in awe of Havana's Spanish colonial past as you explore the four key squares of Old Havana. Accompany an architectural guide and explore Hemingway's Havana in a classic 1950s American convertible. After dinner, enjoy the spectacle of a cabaret-style performance at the famous Tropicana.

Day 3 Havana

In the morning, you’ll start your adventure with three choices. Visit local markets and an authentic bodega, one of the governmental stores that distribute rationed/low-priced groceries, to gain a greater understanding of the regional economy. Or visit three to four artists in their studios to experience how Cuban life is interpreted through the creative lens. Or observe a morning rehearsal of the National Ballet of Cuba, to witness the themes and passions that inspire their performances. In the afternoon feel the rhythm of the Rumba Dance Project or join a local baseball player to enjoy Cuba’s National Pastime (and get steamed at the umpire in either Spanish or English). After dinner, visit the Fábrica de Arte Cubano, to relax in the company of art galleries and live music.

Day 4 Havana - Viñales

After breakfast, depart Havana toward the Pinar del Rio province and the valley of Viñales, the heart of Cuba’s tobacco-growing region. Upon arrival, your local guide will lead you into a lush countryside surrounded by massive limestone hills, explaining the history of tobacco cultivation as you walk. Visit tobacco plantations where they still plow the earth with oxen, inhale the famous drying houses, and have a tobacco farmer guide your hands into rolling a cigar.

Next, visit the noteworthy Botanical Gardens, established just outside of town, before heading on to Trinidad for a late afternoon arrival and check-in. In the evening, dine at one of our favorite privately owned paladars, where the homecooked meals are cooked by a traditional Cuban mami.
