Day 1 Barcelona

Once you arrive at the Barcelona airport, take a private transfer to the Mercer Hotel. After you are checked in and settled, immerse yourself in the world of Spanish wine as an expert wine guide navigates you through three unique Barcelona tapas bars in El Born District. Next, apply this knowledge during a visit to a trendy wine bar, with the last stop of the evening at a traditional bodega, or winery. You’ll truly get a taste of Spain’s 3,000-year history of wine!

Day 2 Barcelona

Begin your day with breakfast, then meet your expert guide for a Barcelona Modernism and Gaudi Architecture Tour. Witness some of Gaudi’s most impressive creations: the skeletal-organic visage of the Batlló House and the “open-quarry” aesthetic of the Milá House. Observe some of Barcelona’s finest modernist buildings and famous streets, such as Passeig de Gracia, an elegant boulevard showcasing local style since the 19th century. Day 3 Barcelona

After breakfast, meet your host for the Barcelona Old Quarter & Gourmet Walking Tour. Beguile your palate during this odyssey of Barcelona gastronomy, where culinary hotspots, local markets, and emporiums introduce you to specialties that will astonish your sense of taste. For example, Carrer de Petritxol yields a host of cafés that pour the best hot chocolate in all of Barcelona. Discover the streets of the Born neighborhood, and along the way stop to taste delicious local cheeses, fresh fruit, cured meats, chocolate with churros, olive oil, decadent turrón nougat, dried fruit, and nuts.

Day 4 Barcelona

Start off your day with breakfast at the hotel; afterward, meet your expert guide and transfer to the Penedès region. You will visit charming wineries where the owners and their families have spent generations cultivating the best from the soil and climate. We appreciate variety, so there will be sparkling wine producers, as well as red, white, and rosé wine specialists, with plenty of Catalan culture, countryside, and gastronomy to enjoy. Then arrive at Avinyonet, where you will have time to roam the town before visiting the Wine Cellar of Ràfols dels Caus. Day 5 Madrid

Check-out of your hotel and take a high-speed train to Madrid. Cross the arrivals hall where your driver will await you with a signboard for a private transfer to your hotel. After checking into your hotel, balance your day at leisure; consider visiting the Museo Naval, (the Maritime Museum), or La Tienda del Real Jardín Botánico de Madrid (the Botanical Garden). In the evening, meet your host and enjoy a classic Madrid tapas dinner tour paired with flavorful wines. Stroll the streets, visiting spectacular museums, taking in the wonderful architecture, and sampling tapas crafted from local ingredients.

Day 6 Madrid

After breakfast at the hotel, meet your expert art historian for an enlightening tour of the city. Here you will learn about the origins of Spain’s fascinating capital, through the Prado Museum, Plaza de Oriente, the Gran Via, the Paseo de la Castellana, the Salamanca quarter, the Plaza de Castilla, the Parque del Oeste, and the University Quarter. Celebrating the 200th year of its founding, the Prado Museum primarily houses paintings and sculptures, major collections of drawings, engravings, coins and medals, as well as items of clothing and decorative art. Elements worth noting on the exterior include its staggering bronze weaved doors by Cristina Iglesias and the Tuscan box gardens.

Day 7 Madrid – Segovia – Ribera del Duero

After breakfast at the hotel, check out and meet your driver to transfer to Segovia. Your local guide will introduce you to the wonder of the Roman aqueduct in Azoguejo Square, an engineering gem constructed between the first and second centuries. Then have lunch and walk around the city at your leisure; consider a tour of the Alcazar de Segovia: initially constructed in the 12th century as an Arab fortress, this palace has been the home for many Spaniard kings. Afterwards, take a private transfer back to your hotel. For dinner, visit Restaurant José María; enjoy their Segovian suckling pig, roasted golden brown on the outside, juicy and tender on the inside, or experience a dish of grilled Segovian vegatables with virgin olive oil.

Day 8 Ribera del Duero

Have breakfast and relish in the hotel’s facilities, by enjoying your day at leisure. Learn about Ribera del Duero, located in the heart of Castile; this vast arid region is punctuated with Crusader castles and miles of flavorful vineyards. Tinto Fino (AKA Tempranillo), the region’s primary grape, is used to craft a range of mid-level to ultra-premium wines.

Day 9 Ribera del Duero

Partake in breakfast at the hotel and meet your guide to visit the beautiful villages of Ribera del Duero. This includes an exclusive visit to Emilio Moro Winery, where wine is treated as a “living creature” to be tended to, cared for, and understood. First, transfer to the charming town and castle of Peñafiel, the latter built in segments between the 10th and 15th centuries, then continue to Curiel de Duero and Condado de Haza. Visit the San Pablo Monastery, a 13th century defunct Dominican convent, renowned for its Gothic/Mudejar apse. Afterward, transfer to the town of Pesquera del Duero and arrive at Emilio Moro winery, to experience elaborate wines paired with lunch. End the afternoon by meeting your driver and returning to your hotel; for dinner, consider a cozy restaurant in Aranda de Duero, capital of the Ribera del Cuero comarca.

Day 10 Ribera del Duero

Have breakfast, check out of your hotel, and transfer to Haro: land of wines, vineyards, and vegetable gardens. Meet your expert guide and tour Rioja by visiting the sun-soaked towns of La Sonsieera, Laguardia, Briones, Labastida, and the López de Heredia Winery. Then visit Baigorri Winery, where the quality of its luscious wines is closely followed by its delicious food pairings, and its winery’s modern architecture overlooking the vineyards. In the afternoon, meet your driver to transfer to your hotel and check-in. Day 11 San Sebastian

In the morning check out of your hotel and meet your driver for travel to San Sebastian, located on the Bay of Biscay, and check into your hotel. In the evening meet your host and enjoy a food tour of the region’s famous cuisine, including an array of Pintxos (Basque tapas) and restaurants. You will experience everything from traditional bodegas to chic, avant-garde bars. These delicacies will be paired with the perfect pour: from cider to local whites and reds.

Day 12 San Sebastian

After breakfast at the hotel, meet your local chef in the hotel lobby. First, shop for ingredients with your chef as a guide through La Bretxa, a food market where more than 40 retailers sell an array of produce, meats, and fish. Get hands-on knowledge of Basque Country cuisine, at the Gastronomic Society’s cooking class, located in the old center of this elegant city. A professional chef will demonstrate how to prepare an entire menu, from savory appetizers to scrumptious desserts. After preparation, you will eat your cooked masterpieces while sipping Spanish wine.

Day 13 San Sebastian

After breakfast, meet your driver and take a private transfer to Bilbao, where your local guide will provide a panoramic tour of the city. Visit the Frank Gehry-designed Guggenheim Museum, the Euskalduna Concert Hall, designed to resemble a ship under construction – a tribute to the area’s shipyard roots; and other architectural wonders. When touring Casco Viejo, discover vibrant town squares, the San Antón Church, built at the end of the 15th century; and the Ribera Market, the biggest covered market in all of Europe. Next, meet your driver and transfer to Guetaria where you can take in the beauties of this fishing town at your own pace, whether it’s walking through the main street of Nagusia Kalea or visiting the 15th century gothic church of San Salvador. After enjoying the wonders of the city, a driver will return you to your hotel.

Day 14 San Sebastian

Enjoy breakfast at the hotel, then meet your driver-guide for a trip to the Basque Cider Region. You’ll walk around the apple orchard and learn about pollination and the fermentation process. Transfer to a Basque farmhouse run by the same family and learn how the pigs are reared. Enjoy a five-course home-made meal in the family’s dining room, fit with charcuterie, and plenty of Rioja wines and cider. End the day transferring back to the hotel and enjoy the rest of the afternoon at leisure.

Day 15 Departure
