About Château de la Treyne

Rising from a limestone bluff above the Dordogne River, this romantic 17th-century castle hotel is surrounded by almost 300 acres of formal gardens and forests. Regal public spaces include a candlelit one-star restaurant in the Louis XIII salon, featuring a soaring ceiling of deep octagonal coffers, walls paneled in silk damask and a wide Aubusson tapestry; the elegant wood-beamed Fragonard salon; and a wood-paneled library. There is also a broad riverview terrace ideal for alfresco dining and drinks. Few of the 17 guest lodgings have unappealing views, but vistas of the river valley are the most memorable. All rooms present a lavish period décor as well as modern conveniences, such as master light switches and air-conditioning. Opt for a palatial Junior or Master suite. Amenities include a tennis court, an outdoor infinity pool and a large network of hiking trails. Guided fishing excursions and cave tours can be arranged. The well-trained staff is formal but very friendly.
